From 10-22nd May I will be participating in the
Cannonball Charity Ride, a motorcycle rally which will raise
funds for the charity DEBRA.
DEBRA supports sufferers of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) which is a
rare disease whereby the skin blisters and peels
at the slightest touch. EB children are sometimes called the 'butterfly
children'; because their skin is said to be as fragile as a
butterfly's wings. Living with EB has been likened to living with
third degree burns. It is very painful, and sufferers must be
bandaged every day with dressings to protect and medicate their
woulnds.
This rally is no ordinary ride around the block. We will be
travelling on dirt bikes and it will take us from Bribie Island
across Queensland and into Alice Springs. From there the
course will wind around to Kings Canyon and then down into South
Australia’s Barossa Valley. Approximately 6000 kms in
total. Along the way we will be raising money and spreading the word
about EB.
It has been a particularly disastrous start to the year for so many
people all over Queensland and many parts of Australia with flooding
and cyclones affecting almost everybody directly or indirectly in
many different ways. Not to forget the problems our neighbours
across the Tasman are experiencing. Those who haven’t been affected
and even some of those who have are giving generously to various
appeals to assist flood and cyclone affected communities.
The flooding and the flow-on economic effects have caused
difficulties for quite a few of our fellow entrants who have, for
various reasons, had to pull out of this year's fund-raising event.
It is for this reason that we ask for great generosity from everyone
who can give a donation to this very worthy and much unknown cause.
Every day, every month and every year, the children affected by EB
and their families who support them are living through their very
own traumatic event. Here, there is no cleanup operation, no 24 hour
news coverage, there is no getting on with lives. This issue doesn’t
go away. It is with them for life.
For this charity I have agreed to raise $3000.00 but have set
myself a goal to raise over $4000.00.
This is where you come in, because I need your help to reach this
target. Your donation - no matter how small or large - will help,
but as you know the more you give the more benefit will go to these
most worthy recipients.
HOW TO DONATE
Donations over $2.00 are fully tax deductible and can be made by

THANKS
This ride will be painful, but hopefully fun for me and the other
men and women entering in this event. Our pain will go away. EB
sufferers’ pain is with them for life.
They need our help.
Thank You and Best Regards
